My Hero Academia's newest volume release has quickly become one of the manga's top selling releases to date! The newest volume of the series hit shelves in Japan earlier this month, and part of the reason to be excited for this newest volume in particular was the fact that it collected many of the chapters of Izuku Midoriya's vigilante run.
As the Final Act of Kohei Horikoshi original manga series continues, these chapters continue to be some of the most important as the series readies for the final battle. So it's not really a surprise to see that it has been doing well.
According to the newest numbers from the Weekly Oricon Charts in Japan, My Hero Academia Volume 33 has already sold over 548,000 copies in just ten days since first hitting shelves earlier this month. This is a new record for the franchise as it has become the top selling volume of the series to date in this kind of short time frame, which was a crown previously held by Volume 32 at a little over 539,000 copies. That means fans are flocking to the volumes more so than ever!
Volume 33 of My Hero Academia has been one of the more notable physical volume releases in quite a while not only because of the aforementioned vigilante material, but it even made some adjustments to that material. Editing some parts of the original chapter releases originally seen in the pages of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Magazine for the final version of those chapters seen in the volume, there have been some major changes made. This has been a big draw alongside all of the new art as well.
Kohei Horikoshi illustrated some exclusive new art for special incentives for fans grabbing Volume 33 on shelves, and this included special new sketches of Izuku, Ochaco, and more. Together with how much is actually packed within this particular segment of the story and the fact that the Final Act of the series is now moving in high gear in the weekly releases, this kind of sales success definitely makes sense. Now fans just have to wait for the worldwide release.
My Hero Academia: Aizawa's Best Moment
My Hero Academia jumps right into its final battle. However, in its eagerness, the series missed a potentially great moment, My Hero Academia, but the sudden jump from preparation to fighting has confirmed that the series just missed out on what should've been the peak of Shota Aizawa's arc.
It's been known for a while that the endgame of My Hero Academia was imminent, and series creator Kohei Horikoshi had previously indicated that he hopes to wrap up the story by December of 2022. At that time, the story was in a bit of a lull - Deku had returned to the fold from his stint operating solo, and American hero Star and Stripe had sacrificed herself to buy the heroes in Japan some time before All For One achieved his ultimate form. With one week of extra time, it seemed like the series was setting up for a lot of action to take place in that window.
Unfortunately, the end of chapter 342 skipped straight to the "day of the operation," passing over those last few days before the fight. While fans have complained a bit about how slow-paced the story was throughout 2021, it seems almost pointless to introduce this week of preparations only to rush past it.
Since much time and effort had been spent on Kurogiri and Aizawa's shared history, it seemed like the story was setting up for Aizawa to have successfully resurrected some aspect of his friend in Kurogiri, a fact which would alter the balance of the fight significantly. Instead, Chapter 344 reveals that it was a student from class 1-B who copied Kurogiri's quirk and made use of it for Chapter 343's Avengers Endgame-style moment - a far less satisfying answer.
My Hero Academia: Deku & Bakugo Relationship The Story

Whether it's a villain like Dabi or a hero like Hawks, fans are treated to amazing stories and character development at every turn of this show. One relationship that has been the cornerstone of the entire anime is the rivalry of the brash Bakugo and the protagonist Deku.
Like many other great rivalries in shonen anime, this relationship has dozens of pivotal moments and memorable team-ups, however Bakugo and Deku have one of the most unique dynamics in My Hero Academia. This is what truly captivates viewers and readers alike, so let’s dive in and take a closer look at the evolution of this dynamic duos sometimes volatile relationship.
Classic Shonen Rivalry
Throughout most of the early show, fans see the classic interpretation of rivalry in shonen with Bakugo and Deku. The audience looks on as they see Bakugo bully Deku as children and the effects that those moments have later on once both join class 1-A.
As with most shonen protagonists, Bakugo and Deku train together, discover the intricacies of their powers, and clash over their differing ideals. These sorts of “classic” interactions between the two help set the stage for the true evolution of their relationship.
Working Together
The first major time the two work together is during the “Final Exams Arc” after the infamous villain Stain arc. Having the stakes noticeably raised after the violent and deadly altercations the students had with Stain, the teachers of UA decide to have the students compete against the teachers posing as villains for their final exam. Here we see Deku and Bakugo tasked with beating their shared hero, All Might.
While they start off disjointed and lacking in collaboration as always, it is actually Bakugo who comes up with a plan to work together and win against All Might. This is the first time we see the two truly use their powers to benefit one another and break through the ceiling of their previous power caps. This is where Deku begins to understand Bakugo and his needs a bit better, and Bakugo first recognizes Deku as a potential rival.
Bakugo As a Villain
Later on, the villains kidnap Bakugo due to his power and proneness for saying things like “I’ll kill them all.” Bakugo’s rough exterior and tendency to react violently in situations lead the villains to believe they can make a turncoat out of the young aspiring hero. Fans are led to believe this could be a real possibility and get to see Deku struggle with the idea of his childhood rival becoming an enemy. Despite this, Bakugo pushes back against the villains and the other 1-A heroes launch a rescue mission to get him back.
During this arc, Deku realizes that Bakugo needs his other friends like Kirishima to help bring him back. It can’t all be Deku pushing Bakugo towards his goals, much like in other anime where the rivals have exterior characters that project them forward towards their goals. A classic example is Goku and Vegeta. Despite their rivalry, Vegeta being with Bulma and having a son in Trunks pushes him farther forward towards his character development and goals than just his rivalry with Goku.
