New Hero Rises in Jujutsu Kaisen

We’ve seen it dozens of times with Naruto, My Hero Academia, and Fullmetal Alchemist, and now the newest anime to join that pantheon is Jujutsu Kaisen.

The dark fantasy anime based on Gege Akutami’s 2018 manga about sorcerers fighting Cursed spirits in Japan received a pretty great adaptation back in 2020, and its first movie is hitting in a few weeks to introduce a new hero to its expanding world.

The series teen protagonists Yuji Itadori, Megumi Fushiguro, and Nobara Kugisaki are nowhere to be found in the film Jujutsu Kaisen. Instead, the film winds back the clock and shifts focus entirely to the meek Yuta Okkotsu (Megumi Ogata for Japanese dub, Kayleigh McKee for English), who’s spent most of his life with the Cursed spirit of his dead love Rika (Kana Hanazawa/Anairis Quiñones) by his side.

The Cursed version of Rika has been protecting him from harm ever since, usually through bloody means, and it’s a recent event that draws the attention of Tokyo’s Jujutsu Sorcerers, particularly Satoru Gojo (Yuichi Nakumura/Kaiji Tang).

Yuta’s primary aim is to hone his supernatural potential and find a way to exorcise Rika so he can have a normal life. But his presence in the Sorcerer world has caught the attention of Suguru Geto (Takahiro Sakurai/Lex Lang), and it’ll soon fall to Yuta and his friends — Maki Zen’in (Mikako Komatsu/Allegra Clark), Toge Inumaki (Koki Uchiyama/Xander Mobus), and Panda (Tomokazu Seki/Matthew David Rudd), all three of whom are in Kaisen proper — to save Tokyo from being destroyed by Curses.

Just like the original anime, the film’s being animated by Studio MAPPA, and will have some incredible fight scenes to go along with the emotional proclamations about wanting to live a full life.

Akutami originally created Yuta and company in 2017, under the serialized miniseries originally titled Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School. The positive reception to that story inspired him to continue the universe with the primary Jujutsu Kaisen. Kaisen characters were brought over to the main story over time, with Yuta having been fairly recently inserted into the adventures of Yuji, Fushiguro, and Kugisaki. Having seen the film, we can confirm that Yuta’s a great addition to Yuji’s world, and the movie will more than make you excited for him to show up when season two hits next year.

Megumi Fushiguro And Kento Nanami

Megumi Fushiguro maintains a stoic demeanor. As a jujutsu sorcerer, he firmly believes in protecting those in need. Despite his noble ideal, Megumi thinks this is an irrational desire to hold, stating that he is not a hero. On the other hand, Kento Nanami is reserved and removes sentimentalism from most situations. He can be blunt and hates anything impractical. Most notably, Nanami despises working overtime and will do anything to not work a single millisecond over what is required on paper.

ISTJs are given the title of "Logisticians" because they are analytical and orderly. People who fit this personality type tend to be very businesslike and always act out with the utmost integrity. They don't tolerate anything that they deem a waste of time. They tend to be quite reserved.

Nobara Kugisaki And Maki Zenin

Nobara Kugisaki is confident in her abilities, and it's tough to phase her. She is honest with herself no matter what, and she refuses to be swayed from her ideals. She is also able to remain composed during dire situations. Maki Zenin is unyielding and blunt. Maki desires to break all ties to the Zenins. She came from a very tough childhood, becoming someone who naturally leads her classmates and is overall strong.

Itadori Yuji

Itadori Yuji strongly believes in the value of life, believing that others deserve a proper death. He is energetic and passionate in everything he puts his mind towards. When he was thrown into the world of jujutsu sorcery and cursed spirits after swallowing Sukuna's finger, Yuji realized how naive he was about the world. As a result, he was steadfast in his efforts to become a powerful jujutsu sorcerer.

ISFPs are "Adventurers." Despite being introverted, they're very charismatic and sensitive to the needs of others. They also have great imaginations and lots of curiosity about the world around them. They tend to have strong philosophies about how life should be lived, yet they remain open-minded to what others may think.

Aoi Todo

Aoi Todo was first introduced, he just seemed like the average meathead who loves flexing and showing off his skills. However, Aoi just wants to find an opponent he can stand on a level playing field with hence why he was so excited to become best friends with Yuji. Though people underestimate his intelligence, he has a great understanding of how every single person on the planet exists, realizing that people take this for granted by not trying to reach their full potential.

ESTPs are "Entrepreneurs." They tend to be action-oriented and will tackle any challenge head-on. They live for the thrill of exciting new challenges. Though this could be misconstrued as overachieving, ESTPs hate remaining stagnant and never improving. They tend to help others improve, as well.

Toji Fushiguro

Toji Fushiguro is calm, collected, and sure of himself. He looks for opportunities to monetize his jujutsu sorcery skills. He's pretty sardonic as well. Likewise, he's also pretty spontaneous and unpredictable. He's essentially a hitman, taking assignments from people, all while gambling in between. When he accepts clients, Toji never questions them; he doesn't care as long as they pay him enough. Toji is bold, but his opponents never know his next move.

ISTPs are called "Virtuosos." They enjoy insightful conversations and blend their spontaneity with a keen sense of rationality. They can remain calm during a dire crisis, and they tend to seek out things that give them a sense of risk.

Junpei Yoshino

Junpei Yoshino is an INFP. He was pretty misanthropic due to the abuse and bullying he received his whole life from others. He has a negative view of humanity in general. However, he loves movies and even tried starting a club at school for them. Yuji shared this passion and quickly became Junpei's only friend.

INFPs are "Mediators." They often appear neutral and are quiet towards most people. Despite this, they have rich imaginations with loads of creativity. INFPs tend to be quite sensitive and emotional, but they are empathetic to others. They tend to be lonely because no one quite understands them well enough, so they connect heavily to art.

Jujutsu Kaisen Actor Reacts to Joining Anime's Cast

Yuta Okkotsu has shared their reaction to joining the Jujutsu Kaisen anime cast for the new Jujutsu Kaisen movie! First hitting theaters in Japan last December, Jujutsu Kaisen has already gone on to all sorts of success and broken records. Now that it's making its international debut next month starting with theaters in North America, it's gearing up for that success all over again.

Leading the cast for the English dub is the brand new addition of Kayleigh McKee as the voice behind Yuta Okkotsu. It's a big showcase for the character after so much build up in the first season, and thus McKee is fully aware of just how big of an occasion this is noting on Twitter following the announcement, "'I've got to prove... That its ok I'm alive!' SO SO excited to tell you folks that I'm the English voice of Yuta Okkotsu, the lead in [Jujutsu Kaisen]! This role is amazing, challenging, and so fun- I can't wait for you folks to see it when it comes out in theaters!"

Jujutsu Kaisen, and it's currently scheduled to hit theaters beginning on March 18th with both English subtitled and dubbed releases. Crunchyroll and Funimation officially describe the new movie as such, "When they were children, Rika Orimoto was killed in a traffic accident right before the eyes of her close friend, Yuta Okkotsu. 'It's a promise.

When we both grow up, we'll get married.' Rika became an apparition, and Yuta longed for his own death after suffering under her curse, but the greatest Jujutsu sorcerer, Satoru Gojo, welcomed him into Jujutsu High. There Yuta meets his classmates, Maki Zen'in, Toge Inumaki, and Panda, and finally finds his own determination. 'I want the confidence to say it's okay that I'm alive!' 'While I'm at Jujutsu High, I'll break Rika-chan's curse.'

Meanwhile, the vile curse user, Suguru Geto, who was expelled from the school for massacring ordinary people, appears before Yuta and the others. 'This coming December 24th, we shall carry out the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons.' While Geto advocates for creating a paradise for only jujutsu sorcerers, he unleashes a thousand curses upon Shinjuku and Kyoto to exterminate all non-sorcerers.

Will Yuta be able to stop Geto in the end?And what will happen to breaking Rika's curse...?"
